Frequently asked questions

Should you not find an answer to your question below, please send us your question via our Contact form.

How long does the tour take?

3.5 - 4 hours. We set off in the morning and always start in a local cafe.

How far do you walk?

We walk around two kilometres (one mile) with multiple stops on the tour. All the food stops last around 30 minutes, and most are seated. The walking pace is best described as ‘gentle’.

What should we wear/bring?

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for casual city walking. Obviously, the British weather can have a mind of it's own so check the weather forecast and be prepared! Water is offered at each stop, but you might also want to bring a water bottle.

What happens if it rains?

The tour will continue in rain or snow. But if a tour absolutely has to be cancelled due to weather conditions you will be offered the option of a refund or to reschedule on a suitable date.

What is included in the price of a tour?

All food and drink samples at each designated stop plus a branded Tote bag which provides additional discounts. Tote bag & regional food directory Food and drink tastings at at least six stops Professional expert guide Many of our stops offer a 10% discount to our guests.

How much food will there be?

There are six different stops on our tours. You’ll have plenty to eat and drink and certainly will leave satisfied. We advise you to have a light breakfast - we promise you won’t be hungry at the end!

I am vegetarian. Can I come on the tour?

Yes but please let us know in advance. We are unable to cater for vegans.

I am gluten intolerant. Can I come on the tour?

You are welcome to join but some of the stops do not cater for a gluten free diet.

I have an allergy. Can I come on the tour?

We are able to cater for guests with allergies. However, please get in touch to let us know the severity of your allergy, and what ingredients/foodstuffs exactly you are allergic to. Not all of the producers we visit are able to make their foods in a nut free environment.

We now can't make a tour we are booked on. What is your cancellation policy?

If you notify us more than three days before the start of the tour we’ll be happy to refund your payment. Any later than that we have to cover costs of the guides and food and drink already ordered, so we’re afraid it’s not possible to offer a refund. But we’ll try and offer you other dates for you to come on the tours.

I live here. Why would I do a food tour?

We’ve had many guests come on our tours who greet us by saying ‘I’ve lived here for years, I know everything about the place’ (even in one case a farmer in the Melton area who had supplied milk to one of the Stilton dairies). At the end of the tours they always say ‘well, I learned something new today.’
