It was just about twelve months ago that we started Hidden Food Tours. So it was quite a good feeling to head up on stage at the Go Leicestershire Hospitality and Tourism Awards on Wednesday to collect the gong for best New Tourism Business.
Anyone who's started a new business knows that there are moments when you feel doubt that the enterprise you're pouring your heart and soul into is actually going to amount to anything, and when you're telling people about it you can almost see the doubt in their eyes. When we launched and were telling people that we were only taking a small number of guests on each tour, and that the pricing was going to reflect this, a number of responses were 'why don't you make it cheaper, and increase the numbers?"
So it's great when people get it. The awards rubric said;'
For our winner, our judges commented that this business took on quite a challenge by moving into a sector that was already well developed and could be felt to have nothing new to offer. However, thanks to their extensive research and planning over many months they proved this to be wrong. The offer is meticulously researched and presented with passion and flair and is based on really strong partnerships with other local businesses. We are excited to see how they develop.'
So, thanks to everyone who's been on the tour over the last year, to all the venues and suppliers who have got involved, and the good people around Melton, including but not limited to Andy at The Stockyard, Kirstie at Melton Borough Council, and the Town Estate, who have all been really supportive.
We've got some really exciting plans for the next twelve months, so watch this space. And finally, a pure unabashed plug, If you’re a foodie or looking for a unique experience, visit www.hiddenfoodtours.co.uk to learn more, book a place, take a bespoke private tour or give the gift of experience this Christmas.

It is such fun, historically informative and delicious food, Everything that Melton Mowbray has to offer from Grantham Gingerbreads, Cheese, Pork pies, Samosas, Smoked Salmon to die for, wicked Smoked Chocolate Brownies and drinks to complement it. A definite must if you've a Saturday morning to spare and go hungry!
